This week, Rep. Paquette and I testified before the Senate Housing and Human Services Committee on House Bills 5152 and 5153.
This bipartisan package would help protect homeowners facing foreclosure by increasing transparency, creating a seven-day cooling-off period before certain transactions, and closing loopholes that allow predatory buyers to pressure vulnerable families into signing away redemption rights, surplus proceeds, or home equity for far less than their property is worth.

In May 2025, the Trump administration issued an emergency order forcing the J.H. Campbell coal plant to stay open after its planned retirement.
Now, a federal appeals court has thrown out that order, ruling that the Department of Energy exceeded its statutory emergency authority and could not override Michigan’s long-term energy planning processes.
The ruling is a major win against federal overreach and for ratepayers, who have been forced to bear the cost of keeping an aging coal plant operating.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, we honor the lives lost, the families forever impacted and the bravery of all first responders who ran toward danger. Today, we also thank our local firefighters, EMTs and police officers who continue that legacy of service and sacrifice.
