It was an honor to convene in New Orleans with passionate, brilliant leaders from across the country at the BLLN National Leadership Summit. We met several legends and looked at where we are headed in the future. Im grateful for the connections, the knowledge shared, and the collective energy to keep moving forward. 🖤✊🏾

Today closes out Black Maternal Health Week. Black mothers are 2-3 times more likely to die of preventable emergencies during birth and pregnancy. I have personally sat with the children of my constituents mourning the fact that their mother is no longer with us. Seeing the pain of a child who will never know their mother is crushing, but knowing it was preventable is unbearable.
Let’s continue doing the work of closing the disparity gap in healthcare and ensuring that Black mothers are here to grow old with their families ❤️🧸

A big thank you to Jash’d Belcher and Zion for inviting me. Thank you to our incredible panelists—Dr. Leadriane Roby, Jash’d Belcher, Valissa Armstead, Eric Brown, Dr. Keli Christopher, and Shannon Harris—for sharing your HBCU experience. 👏🏾

What is happening right now in America is not normal. The chaos we see and feel is intentional- but it didn’t come out of nowhere. 🇺🇸
This moment was created by the miseducation of our children 📚, the villainization of Americans in need, and the racial unrest that this country was built on.
We the people of this country have a choice. If we want to change the path we are on we have to change the things that got us here.
Salute to @senbooker for defying business as usual by taking time to educate us on what’s happening and calling out the powers that be. 🏛️ All of us have our own part to play!
