Today is the final day of Black History Month 2025 and I wanted to highlight a final group of African American innovators. The impact of their brilliance and these inventions lasts far beyond this month.
These final pages highlight Black inventors whose creations changed industries, improved our everyday lives, and continue to shape the world today.
Innovation knows no bounds, and these stories deserve to be told year-round. Take a look, share, and let’s keep learning together.

Last Friday, we honored a true trailblazer in education—Hattie Beverly, the first Black teacher in Grand Rapids Public Schools. Standing in the newly named Hattie Beverly Academy of Teaching, Learning, & Social Justice, I was reminded of the power of perseverance.
In 1899, Beverly overcame opposition to become an educator, paving the way for so many who came after her.
Her legacy is more than a name on a building—it’s a promise to keep breaking barriers and investing in the next generation of educators and leaders.

We have another round of African Americans who have changed the world. From the heat and air we enjoy in our homes, the items that keep our food fresh, the parts in our cars, the street lights, the phones in our hands and so much more are all the amazing contributions of Black inventors.
