Four years ago today, the world watched as extremists attacked our U.S. Capitol.
Today, we reflect on what we've learned and recommit to protecting democracy.
In Michigan, we've taken action to protect voting rights and strengthen democratic safeguards.
We must continue to reject extremism and work to ensure that our elections are safe, secure, and that every vote counts.

If only our AG had pressed charges, went ahead with charging them and putting them ALL on trial. that letting them off the hook only empowered the radicals on the right.
Tell us your role in the ponzi scheme. How many houses do you own? Where did you get the money? You didn't know what your sister was doing? Why did you give up one of your houses? Fraud. www.macombdaily.com/2024/08/02/sister-of-state-rep-xiong-ran-real-estate-ponzi-scheme/amp/
As we prepare to step into 2025, it’s a time to reflect on the year we’re leaving behind. For some, 2024 was a year of triumphs and growth. For others, it may have been a year of challenges and struggles.
If this past year tested your strength, I hope 2025 will reward your perseverance. May it open doors to new opportunities, bring meaningful progress, and create paths that align with your aspirations.
As we set our goals and chase new horizons, let’s also take time to celebrate who we are, how far we’ve come, and the lessons we’ve learned. The journey matters just as much as the destination.
Here’s to a New Year filled with hope, purpose, and the courage to keep moving forward—whatever that may look like for you. Wishing you all a meaningful and fulfilling 2025! #HappyNewYear

Is there any update on HB 6058
Thank you, State Representative Mai Xiong! 💫💕⭐️
Today, I was sworn into office for the Michigan House of Representatives 103rd Legislature at the State Capitol in Lansing, officially beginning another chapter in service to our great state. Since taking the oath on April 30, it has been an honor to represent our community and work toward meaningful progress for Michigan families.
As a mother of four, I am deeply committed to creating a future where every family has access to better opportunities, a healthier environment, and an improved quality of life. One of my first legislative accomplishments—the passage of a doula scholarship program—reflects this commitment to supporting healthy mothers and children in our state. I look forward to seeing this important legislation signed into law and to building on this progress in the years ahead.
I’m incredibly proud of the work my colleagues, staff, and stakeholders did to ensure the passage of House Bill 6058, which will provide immediate financial relief for thousands of public employees with their health insurance costs starting next spring.
The next two years are filled with promise, and I’m ready to continue fighting for the values that matter most to us. Thank you for your trust and support—I’ll never take it for granted. Here’s to building a brighter future together!

Yay you will do great things!
Thank you for all your work with HB 6058!
AWESOME. do the best you can.
I am beyond grateful to Michigan Senate Democrats for continuing to stay in session after the House adjourned last night due to Republicans and 1 of our caucus members not showing up to work since last Friday.
I want to sincerely thank all of the Democratic Senators for working all night and still into this morning, and for voting to pass my bill HB 6058, which will ensure that public employees will not have to find extra money in their pockets to pay for rising health insurance costs next year.
I am humbled and reminded of how incredibly important our 3 branches of government are, and each legislative chamber, that each one must balance one another in order for our government to work for the people.
I am hopeful that our Governor will sign this bill as soon as possible so that our teachers, firefighters, police officers, and thousands of public employees and their families will be rest assured knowing that the majority of Democratics still have their backs, and we will continue to serve them, even when others have left.

Great news for Michigan public employees!
Today, House Democrats passed House Bill 6058, a critical step toward ensuring our teachers, firefighters, police officers, and municipal workers have access to affordable health care.
With staffing shortages across our public sector, this bill will help recruit and retain the dedicated individuals who keep our communities safe, educated, and thriving. HB 6058 amends the 80/20 law to make health care costs more manageable for public employees and their families—because no one should have to choose between serving their community and caring for their loved ones.
Thank you to my colleagues who supported this necessary legislation. Together, we’re showing Michigan’s public workers that we value their commitment to our state.

Thank you! Your speech was amazing.
Thank you!
Thank you State Representative Mai Xiong!
This evening my Michigan House Democrats colleagues and I passed several critical pieces of legislation to protect and empower survivors of human trafficking in Michigan. House Bills 5836-46 expand legal protections for individuals harmed by human trafficking and provide pathways for survivors to clear their criminal records.
Together, the package ensures Michigan is a safe state for survivors of human trafficking to rebuild their lives, while providing protections for victims of human trafficking. My bill, HB 5841, updates Michigan’s penal code and DNA identification profile system to explicitly hold perpetrators of human trafficking accountable.
As you can see from the Record Roll Call board, House Republicans refused to vote in support of my bill, and several in this package, choosing instead to engage in political games rather than doing the right thing for survivors. Some of their members voluntarily sponsored and cosponsored some of these bills, which are tie-barred together—a procedural maneuver that makes the passage of one bill dependent on the passage of others in the package. Had we not had 56 Democratic votes, this tactic would effectively impede progress by creating unnecessary obstacles and prioritizing political strategy over meaningful action.
Rather than collaborating to protect survivors and hold perpetrators accountable, House Republicans chose delay tactics that deny survivors the justice and support they deserve. Human trafficking is a nonpartisan issue that demands bold, decisive action—not political brinkmanship. Survivors cannot afford to wait while legislators prioritize politics over people. The time is now to put aside partisanship and stand united in making Michigan a safe haven for survivors to rebuild their lives.

🎉 It’s shortly after 8 p.m., and I’ve been at the Capitol since 8 a.m., but it was all worth it—my House Bill 5826 has officially passed the House after receiving bi-partisan support in the Senate! This crucial legislation is now on its way to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law.
This bill will establish a scholarship program for aspiring doulas who demonstrate financial hardship, expanding maternal care services to women in underserved communities across Michigan.
I’m incredibly grateful to my colleagues for their support of this important initiative, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on mothers and families in our state. Together, we’re making meaningful progress for Michigan!

As we approach the final four session days of the year during the lame-duck period, I’m reflecting on the work we’ve accomplished and the opportunities ahead to continue delivering results for Michigan families.
I’m proud to be here at the State Capitol today to vote on meaningful legislation that strengthens school safety by improving emergency response, communication, and collaboration between schools, law enforcement, parents, and mental health experts.
We’ve also heard from workers across Michigan about how the economy and inflation are impacting their families. That’s why I’m proud to support legislation to expand unemployment benefits, ensuring they better reflect the realities of today’s workforce and provide critical support when it’s needed most.
Serving the people of Michigan is my honor. Thank you for trusting me to represent your voices and fight for the issues that matter most. Let’s finish this session strong, focused on building a safer, more secure, and more equitable future for all.
