Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet with our firefighters from Warren and hear directly about the challenges facing first responders back home and across Michigan.
Their priorities are straightforward and rooted in public safety:
🚒 Ensuring firefighters can advocate for safe staffing levels and workplace safety.
🧠 Expanding support for PTSD and mental health resources for the men and women who experience trauma in the line of duty.
🇺🇸 Providing paid military leave for firefighters who also serve our nation in the armed forces.
These are common-sense policies that support the first responders who put their lives on the line to protect our communities every day. When we invest in our workers, we strengthen public safety for everyone.
I am committed to doing everything in my power to advance our shared priorities, and I am proud to be a cosponsor of legislation that will help make them a reality.
Thank you to Joel and Adam, and the firefighters who visited the Capitol and took time away from their families and duties to advocate on behalf of their fellow firefighters back home. Your dedication to serving others extends far beyond the firehouse, and I appreciate your leadership and advocacy on behalf of firefighters across Michigan.
Together, we can ensure our first responders have the support, protections, and resources they deserve. 🚒🇺🇸

Today my House Democratic colleague State Representative Julie M. Rogers and I introduced legislation to make childcare more affordable in Michigan, without raising taxes!
We are in an affordability crisis.
Families are paying more at the gas pump, in the grocery store, on housing and on energy costs.
Our legislation codifies and expands Tri-Share and Care-Share, lowering costs for families, workers and businesses.
Childcare is a workforce and economic issue. If parents can’t afford childcare, they can’t earn a living, businesses lose out on workers and our state’s economy suffers.
As a working parent of four young children, I know the struggle every parent faces as they balance raising a family and working. I am committed to providing Michigan families relief now.
This package helps address both issues and brings relief to Michigan families and ensures a robust workforce.

If we are serious about growing Michigan's workforce, we have to be serious about making child care affordable and accessible.
For too many families, child care isn't just another monthly bill, it's the difference between being able to work or being forced to stay home. For employers across Michigan, it has become one of the biggest barriers to recruiting and retaining workers.
Recent research from Michigan State University found that families who live farther from licensed child care providers are significantly less likely to participate in the workforce. Child care-related disruptions cost Michigan nearly $2.9 billion every year, including $2.3 billion in losses to employers and $576 million in lost state tax revenue. More than 5,000 additional women could join Michigan's workforce if child care were available within five miles of their homes.
Child care is not just a family issue. It's an economic and workforce issue.
When parents can find and afford quality child care, businesses can fill open positions, employees can stay in the workforce, and our economy grows stronger.
Making child care more affordable isn't just the right thing to do for families, it's one of the smartest investments we can make in Michigan's future.
As your State Representative and a parent who understands these challenges firsthand, I remain committed to finding solutions that help parents get back to work, support businesses looking for talent, and strengthen Michigan's economy.

It’s been wonderful to see so many families already enjoying the new splash pad and playground at Rollinger Park (formerly Rotary Park) in Roseville. Moments like these are a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together and invests in spaces that bring people together.
The newly renovated park features a splash pad, pickleball court, ninja obstacle course, walking path, pavilion, and many other improvements designed for residents of all ages to enjoy.
The splash pad is turned on everyday from 9am - 9pm during the summer season!
Investments in parks and public spaces are about more than new amenities —they are investments in our children, families, neighborhoods, and overall quality of life. These spaces create opportunities for recreation, connection, and lasting memories for years to come.
Congratulations to the City of Roseville on the opening of this exciting new community asset. Thank you to the city leaders, staff, and residents whose vision and support helped make this project a reality. I look forward to seeing families continue to enjoy this space all summer long and beyond.

Roseville Cares is a program that helps our senior citizens stay active, healthy, and engaged. Thank you to Pastor Moe and Paula for the incredibly meaningful work they’re doing in our community to take care of our senior citizens.
Yesterday, they invited me to join in on their weekly chair exercises.
Spending time with our seniors is another reminder that healthcare access, lower prescription drug costs, snap food benefits, in-home care, and reliable transportation aren’t just policies on paper —they make a real difference in these seniors’ lives.
No matter what, I’ll keep showing up, and fighting for them.

Congratulations to the residents of St. Clair Shores on the grand opening of their new fire station —an important investment in public safety, emergency response, and the future of the community.
This infrastructure upgrade, made possible through funding from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, is a reminder of what’s possible when federal dollars are returned directly to local communities to meet real needs. Investments like these help ensure our first responders have the modern facilities and resources they need to serve residents safely and effectively.
Strong communities are built through partnerships, smart investments, and a commitment to putting people first. When we bring resources home and invest in our neighborhoods, everyone wins.
