Natural Resources and Tourism (Minority Vice Chair)
State Rep. Mike McFall is serving his second term, currently representing the 14th House District, which includes parts of Oakland County and Macomb County, including Center Line, Madison Heights, Hazel Park, and part of Warren.
Rep. McFall worked his way through college, graduating from Central Michigan University with a bachelor of science in community development and public administration. He spent much of his career in the nonprofit sector and worked for the Williams Syndrome Association before entering office.
After Rep. McFall and his husband moved to Hazel Park, they quickly fell in love with the strong sense of community and the way neighbors look out for one another. That connection inspired Rep. McFall to serve on Hazel Park City Council, where he worked to strengthen the community he was proud to call home.
Today, he brings that same commitment to his work as a state representative. He takes pride in being accessible and responsive to the people he serves, listening to their concerns, following through, and getting things done. For Rep. McFall, public service is about showing up for your community and earning the trust of the people you represent.
Rep. McFall’s commitment to mental health policy is deeply personal. Like so many other families, his own family has experienced a mental health crisis. During that difficult time, the struggle to find someone who could provide help and support was a profound and troubling experience. It exposed the gaps in Michigan’s mental health system and reinforced for Rep. McFall that access to timely, affordable, and appropriate mental health care must be a priority.
He believes mental health care should be treated as a fundamental part of a healthy, thriving Michigan. That means making sure people can access care before they reach a crisis and ensuring that people experiencing serious mental illness are not left without somewhere to turn. Achieving these goals and strengthening Michigan’s mental health care system are top priorities of Rep. McFall’s work in Lansing.
