In light of comments made by the House Speaker last week, my colleagues in the Detroit Caucus and education leaders from the city of Detroit came together yesterday to emphasize the importance of completing the education budget on time. Without a completed budget by July 1, school districts are not able to plan for the upcoming school year and can be forced to make tough decisions without complete knowledge of what funding to expect.

I was honored to receive The K-12 Alliance of Michigan 2026 Champion for Students award this week. I first decided to run for this position on behalf of my students who were constantly being shortchanged by decisions in Lansing. During my time in the legislature, I've always worked to advance policy and budgetary priorities that put our kids first. Receiving this recognition from school leaders who are out in the trenches every day fighting for our kids means so much to me ❤️💪 ... See MoreSee Less

The antisemitic hate flyers thrown onto driveways and left throughout Southeast Oakland County this weekend were a deliberate act of intimidation meant to spread fear in our Jewish community. These hateful messages are vile, dangerous, and completely unacceptable.
We have already seen the devastating consequences of increased antisemitism in our own community with the tragic attack at Temple Israel. When hateful rhetoric is ignored or normalized, it can escalate into real violence and real tragedy. That is why we must take incidents like this seriously and condemn them loudly and unequivocally.
Jewish families in Oakland County deserve to feel safe in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, and places of worship. No one should have to fear being targeted because of their faith or identity.
At a time when antisemitic incidents are increasing across the country, silence is not an option. There is no place for antisemitism in Oakland County, in Michigan, or anywhere in our country. Thank you to our local public safety departments who are investigating and working hard everyday to keep us all safe.
