So these hypocrites try to make a law to punish… well… themselves. The RepublicanSpeaker of the State House Matt Hall (517-373-1784) and the chair of appropriations Ann Bollin (517) 373-7515) have yet to put up a state budget for us to look at, discuss, negotiate, or vote on. The governor and the Senate put up their budgets in the spring. Hall and Bollin are over a month and a half late to pass the entire budget. Please call Matt Hall and Ann Bollin and tell them to submit their damn budget! We are just a month and 7 days from a Republican state shutdown! The only way to have accountability in government is to have consequences for breaking the rules.
HJR M would have suspended pay for lawmakers when the budget deadline is not met.
House Dems denied it the 2/3rds vote required for passage.

House Speaker Matt Hall is failing at his one job: proposing a state budget. Democrats in the Senate did this MONTHS ago and are ready to negotiate. If schools close, kids go hungry, or families lose healthcare, that’s on him. Michigan can't afford a #MattHallGovernmentShutdown. ... See MoreSee Less

So yesterday, Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall put up a bill for us to vote on about punishing future lawmakers who don’t pass a state budget by July 1.
The key hypocrisy point is that the only reason Michigan did not pass a state budget by July 1 is because Matt Hall did not SUBMIT one and still hasn’t.
Yes, over a month and a half later Matt Hall has still not presented a general budget for Michigan for next year. Matt Hall is the only reason there is no budget for next year.
I suggest Matt Hall cut out the middleman, stop creating nonsense bills and just cut his own salary now since he is the only one to blame. #MattHallShutdown

Today Senator Stephanie Chang and I toured a hyperbaric oxygen facility accredited by the gold-standard national accrediting agency for hyperbaric medicine.
Since the death of one of my constituents in a hyperbaric chamber this January, we have been hard at work crafting legislation to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again. Hyperbaric therapy is safe and effective for a variety of conditions, but it must be administered by trained professionals who put patient safety over profits. Thank you to Corewell Health in Grand Rapids for the very informative tour!

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of stopping by the Troy Historic Village to recognize the Troy Historical Society as my July Nonprofit of the Month!
For almost 60 years, they’ve been keeping Troy’s history alive by welcoming thousands of visitors to the Historic Village and offering fun, educational programs for history lovers of all ages. Congrats to Jen Peters and the whole team on this well-earned shoutout!

Last week, I got to visit Project DIAMOnD with the Michigan Aerospace and Defense Caucus. Powered by Automation Alley, this initiative is helping Michigan manufacturers use high-tech 3D printing to boost production, strengthen our supply chains, and grow the future of advanced manufacturing right here at home. It’s amazing to see this kind of innovation happening in our own backyard! ... See MoreSee Less
