I spoke at the Advocacy Day for the Michigan County Social Services Association, a statewide organization whose members are Department of Health and Human Services county directors. These are dedicated public servants on the front lines, helping individuals and families navigate complex systems to access the services they need — whether it’s health care, housing, food assistance or mental health support. ... Thank you for your advocacy!!
Stay tuned this week as Democrats continue to take on House Republicans and the impending trade war and their plans to cut 92% of the state’s budget. The vote by Republicans last week to defund the Michigan Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and other state departments will undoubtedly affect the lives of Michiganders across the board, especially our most vulnerable. Their disinvestment will hurt our seniors on fixed incomes and Medicaid and our kids will not have the education they need and deserve in under-resourced schools. Republicans showed their hands and their actions are pointing to one thing — a government shutdown. What a shame. The fight is not over and Democrats stand united…working together for you! ... I love this!!! Happy 313 Day!
Monday's Community Conversation was packed with valuable information as we all draw closer to tax filing day. I was grateful that the Accounting Aid Society was able to join us for an informative session about personal taxes. Shout out to Matt Hetherwick, Chief Program Officer (discussion lead) and Priscilla Perkins, President/CEO of Accounting Aid Society for their knowledge and passion to serve. The biggest takeaway…. Their services are FREE if your household income doesn't exceed $67,000! That's a lot of people I know. There is no need to pay a tax preparer in these tough economic times. They have a stellar accuracy record, so please consider giving them a chance.
As a reminder, you can re-watch the community conversation anytime on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/RepStephanieYoung/videos/1163510905424638. I host these meetings on the second Monday of the month at 10am. We alternate between my three communities. Next month we will be in Livonia. Please save the date of Monday, April 14 for the next monthly Monday meeting…stay tuned for location details!

I kicked off March National Reading Month in grand fashion with kindergarten, first and second graders in my district. I love the energy and curiosity of our young people.
The book, “What If You Had Animal Teeth” is a fan favorite! If sparks the children's curiosity, thinking about what it might be like to have beaver teeth, bengal tiger teeth and others.
A huge thank you to the schools, libraries, and communities that organize special events, reading challenges, and activities to make reading fun and engaging during this month. I've still got time to do more readings. Please reach out to my office to schedule me for a visit today!
