Thanks to everyone who came to our coffee hour this morning! We had some great conversations about protecting voting rights, preparing for the looming federal cuts, possible bipartisan housing solutions and so much more.

Hope to see you there next month!

After Pres. Donald Trump's SAVE Act died in the US Senate, Michigan House Republicans tried to enact their own version yesterday. It failed here too.

Here's my floor speech:

Happy Easter to everyone celebrating!

Now, more than ever, take comfort in knowing that renewal comes from personal sacrifice in the pursuit of justice.

Just introduced my first bill! Thrilled to be part of a bipartisan bill package to ensure terms of office for local officials do not start until every last vote is counted and elections are certified.

Currently, township officers are sworn in on November 20th. Cities and villages can set terms of office to begin even sooner. After the passage of proposal 2 in 2022, military and overseas voters now have an additional 6 days beyond election day for their ballots to be received by the clerk and tabulated.

Our four bills ensure that the term of office for city, township and village officials begins no later than December 1st after the November election to give the additional time necessary to receive and tabulate these votes before the election is certified. Cities and Villages can still choose to have a term begin later.

Special thanks to Rep. State Representative Penelope Tsernoglou, Mike Hoadley - State Representative and Pat Outman - State Representative for including me on the package!

Let’s be clear: the SAVE Act are nothing short of a modern-day poll tax. We must do everything to make sure this does not become law and I will do everything I can to make sure its state version fails.Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has released a statement on today’s passage of the SAVE Act (H.R. 22) in the U.S. House of Representatives: lnks.gd/2/32HnNqq ... Kent County confirmed we had our first confirmed case of measles yesterday. If you were at any of these locations, do the following:

1. Find out if you have been vaccinated for measles or had measles previously.

2. Call your healthcare provider if you develop symptoms like a fever or rash. Do NOT go in person without calling first. You'll only risk spreading the disease further.

Let's nip this in the bud early folks. Stay positive, stay healthy and stay heroic.
