#EndMIHousingCrisis is not just a tagline but it’s the work my office has been focused on for the last two years.
Yesterday’s press conference laid out a plan for how we use legislation to remove barriers that are limiting access to new, affordable, and attainable housing all across Michigan . Thank you to all of the partners and my colleagues who are invested in this work.
We need shovels in the ground now. We can’t just do business as usual when it comes to creating housing for Michiganders. Housing isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Let’s get to work!

Today, I am happy to announce that my bill, HB 5557, was signed into law by Governor Whitmer. This legislation will require local planning commissions to take housing needs into account during the development of their master land use plans. Affordable housing options are a necessity to attract people, improve the vitality of our business corridors, and increase the livability of our communities.

“Hi, my name is Bo, and I am a resident of Grand Rapids. I am a community member who works closely with immigrant families. I am calling to urge you to swiftly schedule a hearing and a vote for the Drive SAFE package that includes Senate Bills 265, 266, and 267 and House Bills 4410, 4411, and 4412. Having access to a driver’s license is essential for all Michiganders, including immigrant families. These bills would allow undocumented immigrants to safely travel to work, be more involved in their kids’ schools, and complete everyday tasks without the fear of being separated from their families. Please support our immigrant communities in this critical time and pass the Drive SAFE bills now. Thank you
Yes! Thank you! Keep doing what you do! 🥰
🙌🏽 Thank you for your continued leadership and advocacy on behalf of communities! 🖤
Thank you to those who selflessly serve to protect this country. Those who sacrifice so that we can continue this wild experiment that is America. They make it possible for us to continue the search for democracy, to continue towards the hope of what this country can be. I don’t take it lightly.
It was my pleasure to join together with some of our finest at Blodgett hospital today as I was able to honor the men and women who we owe our lives. Happy Veterans Day!
ps I was so excited to be joined by the amazing Corewell Health staff and Ottawa Hills JROTC!

Didn’t know you knew Mrs. Weathers!
Michiganders deserve access to affordable housing that meets their needs. I recently testified on my bill, HB 5557, in the Senate Local Government Committee. This bill would ensure that local communities have a strategic approach to addressing their specific housing demands by requiring planning committees to include forecasts of their current and future housing needs in their master plans. Thank you to our Senate partners for voting this out of the senate last week- next stop is Governor Gretchen Whitmer 's desk!
