It was bittersweet to celebrate Mayor Rosalynn Bliss during her final Mayors Greening Initiative event. Over the last 9 years more than 10,000 trees have been planted throughout Grand Rapids as she made our environment a priority. Investing in our environment is so important and it doesn't happen often in urban cores, thank you for leaving a legacy of environmental justice behind!

It was a pleasure to tour HUB07 in Boston Square. This project includes affordable housing, child care, business development resources, health/workout facilities, and more. Excited to see this come to SE, congrats to everyone working hard to make it happen!

Last week at the Just Economy conference hosted by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition I had a chance to speak about HB6020 and 6021 which propose a community investment plan that brings capital to projects in urban and rural communities. These projects will focus on affordable housing, small business, corridor improvement, and disadvantaged communities. I am excited to work with CEDAM and many local orgs across the state to approach community investment in a new way!

GR has not built a new fire station in over 30 years! That is why this groundbreaking is so special to me. SE Grand Rapids has some of the longest wait times in the county and I appreciate our fire fighters and their union for fighting to better serve this community. Together with my colleagues our massive state investment means two new stations, funding for training, and a community center. Lives will be changed because of this work, what a great day for the south side!

Grand Rapids is doing great work when it comes to housing. I enjoyed meeting up with Rep. Hillary Scholten (tag) and HUD Secretary Adrianne Todman to check out Campau Commons in the district and learn about the work GR Housing Authority is doing. ... See MoreSee Less

Special thanks to the ladies over at WIST for hosting a great event to introduce women to opportunities in the skilled trades. As we push to bring the trades back we have to bring them back better than ever before- this means including women in the conversation! ... See MoreSee Less

Last week I spent time on Mackinac Island with home builders from every part of our state discussing how we can build more affordable housing.
I presented my package of 9 really ambitious bills that focus on local restrictions and regulations that make housing harder to build and raise the cost for our families and neighbors.
Housing that is attainable for the everyday Michigander is a top priority for me- and I’m not just talking about rental units. We have to make ownership possible again if we truly want to see Michiganders prosper. I’m ready to take on the fight!
Thank you so much to the Homebuilders Assoc for inviting me. It was great to join Director Hovey from MSHDA and our Speaker Joe Tate in these important conversations.
