This afternoon I attended the "ribbon-cutting" ceremony at the Romulus Fire Station to celebrate the arrival of the Romulus Fire Department's new fire truck. I fought hard last year to secure funding in the state budget for this vehicle because public safety funding saves lives. This new truck will contribute to better response times and increased public safety and firefighter safety. I want to thank Romulus Director of Community Safety & Development Kevin Krause, Mayor Robert McCraight, city and state leadership, all of the firefighters, and everyone else who worked with me to make this possible. ... Today, I introduced legislation that would require candidates and sitting officials for county offices to disclose felony convictions to strengthen transparency and public trust in local government. These bills ensure that voters have access to critical information regarding the criminal history of their local officials so they’re able to make informed votes. This is not about disqualifying good candidates for office, it’s about transparency and ensuring that voters have information readily available to them before making their choice for who they want to represent them. ...
