Seeing our community come together to support families as they prepare for a new school year was truly inspiring. 🤩

A successful school year starts with having the tools and resources our children need to learn and thrive.

Thank you to all the volunteers, staff, community partners, and local organizations, especially Shelly at Time Together Adult Day Center for making this event possible.

Because of your generosity, more children in our community will be able to walk into the classroom ready to learn, confident, and prepared to start the school year strong.

This is what community support is all about: showing up, giving back, and making sure no child is left behind. 🎒

WARREN, Mich., Aug. 20, 2026 — Yesterday, a Warren Consolidated Schools teacher was arraigned on 12 charges, including possession of drugs and child pornography on his cellphone.

WARREN, Mich., Aug.

Yesterday, I had lunch with the Base Community Council (BCC) —an incredible group of local business leaders, veterans, and community members who support our service members and their families at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

Thank you to Kelli from Forgotten Harvest for inviting me to join this wonderful gathering. It was inspiring to connect with so many people and organizations working to strengthen our military community and make sure families have the resources they need.

We took a short ferry ride to the North Channel Yacht Club, surrounded by the beauty of our waterways, and talked about an issue that touches families across our district: food security.

Michigan is blessed with an abundance of natural resources and surrounded by the Great Lakes. We have an opportunity to harness those resources, strengthen our local partnerships, and ensure that no family has to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

I’m looking forward to sharing more about our shared vision and the work ahead. 🌊💙

I’m honored to be the keynote speaker for Democracy and Me Day with Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan - GSSEM. I can’t wait to meet these inspiring young minds! ✨

These girls are already showing us what leadership looks like!

Leadership isn’t about having a title —it’s about recognizing that there is a need in your community and choosing to make a difference. I’m so proud of them and with their leadership, our future is bright! 🤩

Thinking about my struggles as a working mom of four, and especially now as a mommy legislator.

I’m always thinking about how I can help other moms and —dads with children, too. That means investing in affordable childcare so that parents can re-enter the workforce.

My original bill proposal would have appropriated $10 million toward Tri-Share, a child care employee benefits program that any employer here in Michigan can participate in to help with recruitment and retention.

We were able to get $5 million in this year’s FY27 budget.

We also codified the program into state law, that means the program is now a permanent part of our state’s department operations FOR GOOD! This is no longer a temporary pilot program, it will help working families for years to come. This is truly a BFD.

We did this with bipartisan support, too! That means both Republicans and Democrats supported this policy!

Studies have shown —and employee surveys have informed us that the number one barrier for people entering or staying in the workforce is lack of affordable childcare.

When we invest in childcare, we are strengthening our economy. I’ll continue to fight for all the moms.

As teachers, paraprofessionals and education workers are preparing for the start of a new school year, I’m thinking about them and the sharp increases they’re facing with their healthcare costs because of a Republican-era law adopted in 2011 during the Snyder Administration.

This year, teachers in my community are seeing their premiums go up $1,500. My bill would address this healthcare affordability crises and bring much needed financial relief to them and the thousands of public employees in our state.

#backtoschool and back to working on passing my legislation. Let’s get it done.

I recently attended the 23rd Annual Maggie’s Wigs for Kids Gala. I’m so proud to support such a meaningful and inspiring cause.

Since 2003, Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan has provided free wigs and support services for kids battling cancer.

Through generous donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations, they’ve raised funds to provide Michigan children the care, dignity, and confidence they deserve.

But let’s not forget: last year, House Speaker Matt Hall and Michigan House Republicans disgracefully clawed back $645 million from our state’s budget, funding that had been previously appropriated by the prior legislature. Their reckless actions cut funding specifically allocated to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids. Their vote sent a loud and clear message: they don’t care about the lives of these children and their families facing unimaginable hardship, and the uncertainty that comes with a cancer diagnosis.

Despite Michigan House Republicans’ harmful pursuit of trying to find “waste, fraud, and abuse” and “doge”-ing our state —residents, local leaders, and the business community have continued to step up to ensure that organizations like Wigs 4 Kids have the resources they need to serve the public and that kids have the care and dignity they deserve.

I’m grateful to those who’ve stepped up to make this special event a huge success and to those who continue to support Wigs 4 Kids’ mission —thank you.

Hearing the stories of these children battling cancer and seeing their faces are humble reminders that the decisions we make in Lansing have a direct impact on their lives.

These kids deserve the world.

That’s why I’ll continue to speak up, to be their voice, and to ensure that they are supported.
