Last night, I was delighted to attend the 40th anniversary of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Ann Arbor. The signature annual fundraising celebration—JCC Spotlight to Summer—celebrated 40 years of the JCC’s impact, bringing people together across generations through connection, culture, and shared experience. Alongside my fellow Washtenaw delegates, we presented the JCC with a state tribute before the room honored Leslie Bash, the former Executive Director, for her leadership and vision in shaping the JCC into the vibrant community hub it is today.
At a time of increased challenges for Jewish communities, it was a wonderful evening of connection and belonging.

Yesterday, I attended a Clubhouse Michigan Employment celebration in Lansing honoring Donna Coleman from Genesis House Clubhouse, Howell, MI, USA. (I love their spaghetti dinners!) Genesis House, one of Michigan's 40 Clubhouses, is a community center for people living with mental illness. In a Clubhouse, members work together to provide a dynamic and supportive environment and also provide comprehensive assistance with employment. Yesterday, Genesis House celebrated Donna, a member who has worked there for more than 20 years. I was so happy to be there when she accepted the award.

Last night, my office presented a legislative tribute to Dominic Berkholz to congratulate him on reaching the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Dominic's final project was to lead the construction of a permanent storage shed for Dexter Unified Sports -- a program that promotes social inclusion by bringing together student-athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. Dominic worked to ensure the athletes have a secure, organized space for their equipment, allowing them to focus on competition and building friendships.
Thank you, Dominic, for your dedication and commitment to our community! We wish you the best of luck at Bowling Green State University in the fall!

It’s a beautiful day to attend the 34th annual Art in the Park Pinckney- a display of creativity in downtown Pinckney until 5 pm today. Great art and crafts! I could have spent hours here! And tons of amazing food trucks… two everyone was talking about was the grilled cheese truck and the lobster truck! This is a juried arts show featuring artists in all media, sweet treats, entertainment and community organizations and business support.

After Brighton, I attended the Memorial Day parade in Pinckney, which included the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 419 Pinckney.
Today, I’m thinking especially of the families who feel the loss of a loved one every single day, beyond today.

Started today at the Brighton Memorial Day Parade where I first stopped in at the Brighton Area Historical Society on Main Street. Today, they are showcasing an impressive collection of Civil War memorabilia that was fascinating to see and learn about from the collector. After the parade, the memorial continued at Millpond where hundreds came out to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our country.

Last night, House Republicans passed devastating legislation that blows a $5 billion hole in the budget and hands big corporations like utility companies, a lifetime tax break.
This robs communities of billions of dollars that fund police officers, firefighters, roads, and schools. They claim these savings benefit you, but they don’t benefit anyone.
I’m all for property tax reform, but not when it harms public safety and our kids’ schools.
Rest assured, I will be fighting hard against this insult to our local communities.

I have more Michigan Nurses Association-University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council Union members in my district than any other in the entire state, given the commuter proximity to major hospitals in HD48. So I was proud to rally with them last Saturday as they try to negotiate a new contract in good faith to no avail with U-M. Our nurses are on the front line and deserve far more than a 2% raise. They also deserve safe ratio to patient numbers to do their job well and better terms for retirement.
