Last week, Governor Whitmer announced the winners of the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation, which members from District 9 were winners of. Congratulations to the group effort of 411 Piquette, LLC; Kraemer Design Group; PCI Dailey Contracting; Grunwell – Cashero; and Graham Architectural Products for their efforts in rehabilitating the Studebaker Service building into a much needed 160+ apartment building. A remarkable example of how preservation and progress can work hand-in-hand to help our community.

I was honored to meet with MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz, Ontario Minister Caroline Mulroney, and leaders from Michigan State University Canadian Studies Center, We had an important conversation about strengthening Michigan’s relationship with Canada. Michigan and Ontario share deep and longstanding ties, and continued collaboration is essential to creating opportunity for our communities and future generations.

Yesterday, I was honored to have Tiffany J. Gunter, CEO & General Manager of SMART, join me as my guest for Governor Whitmer’s 8th State of the State address. With her appointment last year, Ms. Gunter has brought a wealth of experience, knowledge, and a clear vision on how to strengthen regional transit for Southeast Michigan. I look forward to her leadership and supporting her in building a robust public transit system that benefits all the residents in our community.

Last night, I was honored to present a tribute to Bob Kendrick of the Negro League Baseball Museum during the MSU Leadership Slavery to Freedom Lecture Series. This event was a powerful way to celebrate Black History Month, reflect on the meaning of freedom and recommit to building a brighter future together.
