Thank you to everyone who joined me at the Hazel Park District Library last week for my monthly Community Conversation. It was a great chance to share updates from Lansing and, more importantly, to hear directly from so many of you. While we discussed several important topics these were probably the most urgent:
☑️ Republican leadership is still holding up the school budget, leaving our students and teachers in limbo.
☑️ Looming federal cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP could impact families right here in our district.
Again, thank you to everyone who came out to share your questions and concerns. Your voices matter, and I’ll keep fighting for you in Lansing.

I’m proud to recognize the Hazel Park Arts Council as our August Organization of the Month! Each month, my office highlights an organization in the district that goes above and beyond for our community, and the Hazel Park Arts Council does just that by bringing people together through creativity and art.
They’re also the driving force behind the Hazel Park Art Fair, which is happening this weekend at Green Acres Park (620 W. Woodward Heights Blvd.):
🎨 Saturday, Aug. 23 – 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
🎨 Sunday, Aug. 24 – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
With over 90 artists, live performances, and family-friendly activities, it’s one of my favorite events of the summer. I hope to see you there!

Tuesday, I joined state and local leaders from across the State at a press conference to announce the Michigan Municipal League's vision to combat the housing crisis with real solutions. The program enables a powerful partnership between the state and local units of government to improve access to attainable housing.
MI Home Program
This proposal would:
✅️ Result in over 10,000 homes being built or rehabbed
✅️ Invest $160 million annually for five years to stimulate housing growth
✅️ Promote significant local zoning changes
✅️ Invest in a market-based housing solution
Want to learn more about this bold plan to address Michigan's housing needs? Stay tuned for more updates here:

I share the frustration so many Michiganders are feeling. Our schools deserve an on-time budget. Road funding is important, but not at the expense of education. Republican House leadership needs to sit down with the Senate and the Governor to get this done. Kids must come first. ... See MoreSee Less

Earlier this month, I had the chance to join the City of Warren Police Department at their Scenario House and take part in a police tactical demonstration. Experiencing the training up close really opened my eyes to the tough, split-second decisions officers have to make to keep themselves and the public safe. I’m grateful to the department for giving me this opportunity to learn more about the challenges they face and the importance of their training.
