Unfortunately, after stalled negotiations yesterday ahead of the July 1st deadline, our schools are planning in the dark for their next fiscal year. Passing a balanced state budget is our most important responsibility as legislators, as it is the only responsibility of the Legislature that is directly outlined in the state constitution. I won't support a budget that places cuts on the backs of our students and teachers.

Cuts to SNAP and WIC raise the cost of living for the average Michigander and take away food access for the most vulnerable recipients, including seniors and people with disabilities. I am fighting to protect food assistance for the families who rely on it.

I strongly disagree with cuts to Medicaid that will force many in our community to go without lifesaving care and shut down rural hospitals that serve people across the state. Michiganders need a state budget that protects their health, no matter their income.
