Thank you to everyone who came out for this month’s community conversation at Gerald R. Ford Jobcorps Center.

It is important that we continue to rally around them during this important time. So many community members helped elevate their voice during their time of uncertainty and I look forward to us all working together to help them move forward.

Thank you to Wood TV 8, Fox, and WGVU for highlighting this important issue.

It was great to break ground on the new Division St. fire station. SE Grand Rapids has experienced some of the longest service times in the county because our stations were serving a large number of people.

I was happy to team up with Senator Brinks to provide funding for two new stations in district 82. They will shorten wait times and save lives!

PRIDE is about so much more than a month. I am always happy to celebrate because when people are able to be as much of themselves as possible it gives us all permission to be who we are as well. In a world full of people obsessed with dictating how others can just BE let’s find more ways and spaces to encourage love and people being celebrated in the skin they’re in!

Shout out to @grandrapidspridecenter for an amazing festival as always!

As we wrap up Juneteenth I am reflecting on the weight of this moment. The weight of where we were and are as a country.

Today was such a blessing to be surrounded by historians, community, and family. I soaked it all in and also took in the work ahead. We have work to do, but we know it can be done.

Thank you all for being with us in this moment. Progress may be delayed, but it’s not denied.

To Live and Die and Live is a powerful film that doesn’t shy away from hard conversations around grief, mental health, and healing.

Please join me for an exclusive screening and a real community conversation with voices I deeply respect, including Ilyasah Shabazz, Jash’d Belcher, and Rebecca Spann , as we unpack the truths this film courageously puts on screen. I can’t wait to moderate with this amazing panel!

🗓️ Thursday, June 26, 2025
📍 AMC Theaters | 3000 Alpine Ave NW, Walker, MI
🎟️ Free tickets available at Eventbrite.com
📸 Red Carpet at 6PM | Showtime at 7PM

This event is free and open to the public. If you care about the intersection of art, wellness, justice, and healing, this is an evening you don’t want to miss.

Let’s show up for each other. Let’s heal forward.
