LANSING, Mich., May 15, 2024 — State Rep. Kristian Grant (D-Grand Rapids) celebrated a significant legislative victory last week with the passage of House Bill 5096 in the Michigan House of Representatives with bipartisan support. This bill amends the Michigan Renaissance Zone Act to streamline and improve the designation process for renaissance zones across the state, helping to foster economic development. The bill also simplifies the extension process for certain existing zones, empowering local governments to drive economic growth in their communities. After the vote, Grant issued the following statement:

“House Bill 5096 is a game-changer for Michigan businesses, communities, and the economy at-large. This bill updates the existing renaissance zone legislation to attract new emerging industries that will spur job creation and significant investments in our economy while also retaining existing companies that are currently doing this work in our communities. The improvements we’re making ensure that Michigan has a competitive edge as we work to grow the presence of these industries.”
