Debbie Mikula and Jenny Marr from the Michigan Library Association visited me in the Capitol yesterday to present me with the 2024 MLA Legislator of the Year Award. We also had a great discussion about the history of my office, which used to be the State Library in the 1800s.
Thank you again to the Michigan Library Association for honoring me with this recognition!

Yesterday, State Representative Emily Dievendorf joined me at Community Baptist Church in my district to honor veterans and their veterans of the year. Terrance and Sheilyn (Charlie) Hall met when Terry was hurt and have been married since - they were honored as Veterans of the Year and received a tribute from the state.
Most of us had veterans in our family. My dad was in the Korean Conflict. My brother was in Vietnam. My grandpa, uncles, cousins and currently nephews who have or are serving. Thank you for serving our country. Thank you for putting your lives on the line for all of us. We appreciate you on this Veteran’s Day and all days.

FYI you tagged the wrong church. We're down in southeast Texas. Nowhere near Michigan.
Vote No on HB4156 and HB4440
My stepdad who celebrated his 93rd birthday five days ago served as an electronics tech aboard a troop transport ship in the Navy during the Korean War. His wife is the grandchild of a member of the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifle Regiment who died of a gangrenous shoulder wound three days after taking a machine gun bullet in the shoulder on the second day of the Battle of Amiens, 91 days before the armistice agreement that ended WW1 was signed on this day 106 years ago. When he left his home in Montreal, he left behind a three week old newborn who grew up to become my maternal grandfather. We don't call November 11 by its 1954 Cold War propaganda name, and we don't put warriors on a pedestal. We pray for peace.
Dave Bankhead has an extraordinary career in public service. Last week I attended the Eaton Township, Michigan meeting to honor David’s 28 years as an Eaton Township Trustee. Many people attended to join his retirement celebration. Congratulations and we salute your service! ... See MoreSee Less

Pick one of your indoctrinators at the YMCA young Christian nationalist mock legislation club meeting AKA Youth and Government taught with a religious agenda backing it. You're disgusting.
Fuck you. You gave a chunk of the public education budget to a non profit with a religious agenda in violation of the state constitution. You should be impeached for letting it get out of the house appropriations committee and Whitmer should be impeached for signing the unconstitutional legislation.

I nominate the YMCA. You think they deserve a grant from the taxpayers even though they're explicitly forbidden from receiving such revenue by the state constitution. Why not give them a framed nonsense award while you're at it? You can give your next nonsense teacher award to one of their propagandists paid to mold kids into future Christian nationalist politicans.

Congratulations State Representative Angela Witwer
Congratulations on your great win! 💙
Great place! Great food!
Congratulations to our October Teacher of the Month winner, Miles Garn! Miles is an agriculture teacher at Charlotte Public Schools, MI. In addition to being a high school teacher, Miles is also a FFA advisor.
To quote his nominator, "He always makes sure everything fits everyone. He never leaves anyone out. He is an amazing FFA advisor. He was only new at the end of last year and he’s already taught us more then we had expected while juggling a new baby. He is truly an amazing teacher and he’s always there to talk if anyone needs it and he is so understanding."
Congratulations again on this recognition, and thank you for your efforts in House District 76!

The Garn family lived a couple miles up the road from my childhood home when Richard was teaching social studies at the old junior high school in the early '80s. Congratulations Miles. You've been bestowed with a nonsense award intended to distract everyone from paying attention to how Angie and the rest of her conspirators on the House Appropriations Committe in Lansing are going to misappropriate our tax dollars this fiscal year. Recently they got away with funding the YMCA unconstitutionally despite its religious agenda as stated in its mission statement.
Our youngest Michiganders deserve to be set up for success. As Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, I'm proud of our work to fund the universal meal program in the last two state budgets to ensure our students don't have to learn on an empty stomach. ... See MoreSee Less

Junk food. You get what you pay for. You gave how much to the YMCA instead of the public education budget? Shame on you.
