LANSING, Mich., March 12, 2020 — On Tuesday, Rep. Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) voted “Yes” on Senate Bill 151, a supplemental appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2019-20.
Key items in Senate Bill 151 include $25 million for coronavirus response, and $500,000 for the design and purchase of a new Special Operations and Response (S.O.A.R.) Vehicle, operated by Bloomfield Township Fire Department on behalf of the OAKWAY Mutual Aid Fire Compact. It also includes $500,000 for Oakland County’s Better with Breakfast program, which provides children with the nutrition they need to perform at school.
“Our current S.O.A.R. vehicle is used every day by more than 20 local cities and townships covered by the OAKWAY compact,” Rep. Manoogian said. “Securing this funding was a priority for our community, and I’m proud we were successful in this effort given the importance of this equipment in keeping our communities – and our first responders – safe.”
The S.O.A.R. vehicle, purchased in 2008, is a multiple capability truck, including capabilities in technical rescue, HAZMAT situations, vehicle extrication, scene lighting, traffic control, and as a self-contained breathing apparatus fill station.
