LANSING — The U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs announced today that it has authorized funding worth up to $123 million from the VA State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program to build two new veterans homes in Michigan, located in Grand Rapids and Southeast Michigan. In response, state Rep. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:
“The release of federal funds toward the construction of a new veterans home in Grand Rapids is great news for Michigan veterans, their families and everyone who supports the men and women who served our country. After all the veterans at the Grand Rapids home have endured over the past several years, this development gives me hope that our veterans will finally be getting the care they deserved all along. I look forward to seeing our veterans in their new home, and I will continue to be their dedicated advocate, always working to ensure that their rights and dignity are respected and that the veterans homes are operated with the support and oversight necessary to provide our vets the best care we can give them.”
