LANSING — Last night, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer gave her first State of the State address, outlining her vision for the state and calling for bipartisan collaboration to address the issues that matter most to Michigan’s working families. In addition, state Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac), who also had the honor of escorting the state officers into the joint session, issued the following statement:
“For my first state of the state address as an elected official, I am encouraged by the plan and vision Gov. Whitmer has for Michigan. We have a lot of work to do, but we also have hope, and that is what will get us through all the hard work. My guest, Mr. Varner, has already begun to better the lives of families in Pontiac by helping with the Michigan Works program in our area, and I am energized and excited to work alongside community members like him, my colleagues in the Legislature and the governor to do what I can to make these bold dreams a reality for every Michigander. ”
Rep. Carter was joined by Daniel Varner, CEO of Goodwill Greater Detroit.
