LANSING — Last week, the Speaker of the House announced committee assignments for Michigan’s 100th Legislature. State Rep. Abdullah Hammoud (D-Dearborn) was appointed to serve as Democratic vice chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Additionally, he will serve on the Appropriations Subcommittees for the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS), Judiciary, and the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

“Healthcare is a human right and we will fight to prioritize it as such in this budget,” Rep. Hammoud said. “As we begin to rebuild in the aftermath of a decade riddled with health crises, it will be critical to address the disparities and inequities that exist throughout our state.”

Rep. Hammoud is serving his second term representing the 15th House District. Prior to his election, Rep. Hammoud spent three years as a healthcare consultant at the Center for Healthcare Research and Transformation before volunteering with the United Nations Relief and Work Agency in Jordan. During his months there, Rep. Hammoud led a successful initiative to promote health and wellness among diabetic refugees throughout the Middle East.
