LANSING — House Republicans approved Senate Bill 1176 today which will exempt nonprofit entities capable of making political contributions from having to publicly disclose the personal information of their donors. All Democrats voted against the dark money proposal. In response to its passage, state Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Huntington Woods) issued the following statement:

“It’s indefensible that Republicans passed this bill to ensure dark money continues to cloud the political process, but at this point, it’s unsurprising. Without their dark money donors, Republican campaigns would run dry of funding, so it’s no wonder they’re fighting hard to protect their special interest friends. The people of our state demanded better roads, drinkable water and affordable healthcare, and this is what they give them instead. I hope Gov. Snyder will see this bill for what it is and veto it on the spot.”
