Last week the House adopted my resolution, House Resolution 32, to recognize March 2017 as Ethnic and Cultural Heritage Month in the state of Michigan*.

For many years, the city of Royal Oak has been recognizing March as an opportunity to celebrate the renewal and enrichment of the many different individuals who have chosen to come to Michigan, become citizens, and call this state their home....

I want to thank the hundreds of residents who have taken the time to contact my office regarding HB 4001, which would have blown a massive hole in our state budget by hastily reducing or eliminating the income tax.

I'm very glad that level heads prevailed at 1:30 a.m. this morning when HB 4001 was defeated as 12 Republicans joined all but one Democrat in opposition to the bill.

I’m honored to have been appointed to serve on the House Committees on Local Government, Tax Policy, and Families, Children and Seniors.

 

As a member of the House Local Government Committee, I look forward to helping empower our local communities by making sure more of our tax dollars make it back home.

While other states have been investing in their local communities, Michigan is the only state to have seen a reduction in revenue...

My wife, Jodie, and I had a great time visiting with residents and leaders from all across Michigan at the State of State address.

I was excited to hear Gov. Rick Snyder continue to speak about the importance of career technical education, STEM and vocational trades.
