Michigan Association of Local Public Health 2024 Friend of Public Health Award

This week in Lansing, I received the Michigan Association of Local Public Health’s 2024 Friend of Public Health Award.

I am grateful beyond words to be honored by so many great associations this year. In addition to this award, I have also received the Michigan Municipal League’s 2024 legislator of the year, the Michigan Association of Counties legislator of the year, and the Michigan Community Action’s annual legislator of the year award.

My job as a state representative is my passion, and it feels so good to be recognized for my continued work and commitment to Michiganders. However, my work does not end with these recognitions. I am here to help make Michigan a better place where we put people first.

Small Business Town Hall

Please mark your calendars for my next town hall focused on small businesses. This event will take place on Monday, April 29, at 3:30 p.m.

This will be a great opportunity for community members to get their voices heard, as well as hear from our local partners and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. This town hall will highlight the many resources available for local small businesses, ensuring we have the tools to navigate the communication barriers between businesses and the community.

Attendees will learn about tools and technical support, engage with economic development  experts and have the ability to ask panelists questions.

Attendees can register using this link.

Expungement Fair

Expungement fairs are an opportunity to review criminal convictions with on-site volunteer attorneys to potentially help expunge convictions. Having criminal convictions expunged can aid a person in securing employment, housing and other benefits available to those without a criminal record.

We are pleased to offer a pre-registration process this time around and would love for you to join us on May 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call my office with any questions.

HUD Planning Grants

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD posted their Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the fiscal 2024 Choice Neighborhoods Planning grants online at grants.gov. This opportunity offers $10 million in planning grants and will be taking applications through June 10 of this year. This funding can help our communities develop more housing, parks, grocery stores, jobs and more.

For more information about the Choice Neighborhoods program, please go to hud.gov/cn.
