I am honored to serve as state representative for the 29th House District and am proud to be a strong advocate in Lansing for the residents and families of our community. It will keep you up-to-date on legislation and policies coming from the Capitol, as well as my coffee hours and other community events I will host so we can get together face-to-face.

Reasons to Contact My Office

The short answer is any reason at all. As your state legislator, my number one priority is YOU. Any reason you can think of to reach out to me for help is the right reason. My staff and I are ready to listen and work with you to solve whatever challenges you may face. A few examples of why you may want to contact my office are:

  • Commenting on current legislation or proposing a solution; as your voice in Lansing, it is critical for me to know how you feel about certain issues and I want to hear from you.
  • The state offers a wide range of free publications on topics such as seniors and veterans services, child safety, consumer protection and more. If you would like one, or if you have questions about what is available, please contact my office.
  • I will be hosting coffee hours, town halls and other community events throughout the year. If you need additional information or want to follow up on one of those events, then this is another excellent reason to get in touch.
  • If there is someone you know who should be honored with a legislative tribute or certificate, please tell us about the milestones or achievements they have reached.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of reasons to contact my office; if you need help or assistance of any kind, please contact us. We will work side by side with you to find the answers you need.

March Recap

March is Reading Month

Reading with our children is so important, and last month one of my greatest joys was visiting several schools throughout our community and spending time reading with the children. This year I was able to visit: Roosevelt Elementary School in Keego Harbor, Auburn Elementary School, in Auburn Hills, Walton Academy of Excellence, Peace Academy, Owen Elementary in Pontiac. Next year I hope to visit more.

Even though Reading Month is over we should all still take the time to read with the children in our lives; it not only provides an excellent family activity, but also helps kids prepare skills that they need to succeed in life.

State of the Communities

On March 11, I held the first ever State of the Communities town hall at Abbott Middle School in Keego Harbor. I was joined by Mayor Bruce McIntyre, Orchard Lake Village; Mayor John Fletcher, Keego Harbor, and Mayor Aron Lorenz, Sylvan Lake. I was so pleased they were able to join me to talk about what’s going on in our communities and how we can grow together.

7th Annual Future Builders

Also on March 11, Kaino Phillips and the Ascend Foundation held their 7th Annual Future Builders and Skilled Trades Expo at Pontiac High School. This massive event showcased academic and vocational opportunities for all students, public and charter, in Pontiac and surrounding areas. As we work to ensure everyone has the freedom to be successful no matter what path they choose, these types of programs and events are so important.

All In: with Chris Hayes

On March 18, Chris Hayes of the MSNBC show ALL IN held a town hall meeting in Auburn Hills for 2020 presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand. I was happy to participate in this event, as the state representative for Auburn Hills.

City Council Meetings

I make it a point to attend as many community meetings as I can in addition to my coffee hours and events because it is critical that I hear directly from you about how I can best serve our community and keep good relationships with our local leaders to bring those plans to fruition. That’s why on on March 18, I joined Mayor Bruce McIntyre and Orchard Lake Village’s Council and Administrators at their monthly City Council meeting and on March 21, I joined Mayor John Fletcher and Keego Harbor’s Council and Administrators at their monthly City Council meeting.

I learned a lot and look forward to continuing working with our mayors and other community leaders to improve life here in District 29.

Visit to the Capitol

On March 20, Prince Ravanna Miles El and the Family Basketball Team visited the Capitol. The Family Basketball Team is a local K-12 organization in Pontiac that promotes academic excellence. I was so happy to spend some time with these remarkable young people.
