LANSING, Mich., Dec. 11, 2020 — House Democratic Leader-Elect Donna Lasinski (Scio) announced the hiring of Libby Drerup McGaughey as chief of staff for the 101st Legislature that commences January 2021.

A highly accomplished and seasoned executive, McGaughey will bring more than two decades of experience in advocacy, legislative and coalition-building, and will be responsible for providing strategic counsel, member support and helping to advance both Caucus and member priorities.

“With her vast and diverse experience in Lansing and around Michigan successfully building broad-based coalitions and advancing policy and legislation, Libby will be of great service to our Caucus as we take on the challenges of the next two years,” said Leader-elect Donna Lasinski. “Her demonstrated commitment to our core Democratic values throughout her impressive career coupled with her extensive leadership and management capability will be invaluable.”

McGaughey most recently was Executive Vice President of Advocacy and Community Education at Planned Parenthood of Michigan, where she was a member of the executive team and provided strategic leadership for statewide education, public advocacy and outreach initiatives, and directed two departments with multiple staff across the state. Previously, she held leadership positions with America Votes, the Michigan Democratic Party and former State Representative and Chair of the House Regulatory Reform Committee Barbara A. Farrah. McGaughey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan.

“It is an honor to be joining Leader-elect Lasinski and return to the Michigan House of Representatives at this critical moment for our state,” said McGaughey. “I am excited to hit the ground running to ensure that the members of our Democratic caucus are supported, prepared and ready to work with their colleagues to fight the pandemic, get Michiganders safely back to work and advance our agenda for the people of Michigan.”
