On Thursday, Gov. Whitmer announced the relaxation of restrictions on contact sports, allowing them to resume in a limited capacity beginning Feb. 8. In response, state Rep. Kelly Breen, (D-Novi) issued the following statement:
“After weeks of meeting and talking with athletes, parents, the MHSAA, local school board members and the Whitmer administration – I’m happy to report that a resolution has been reached that will allow high school sports to safely resume.
As a former student athlete, I know how important sports are to our kids and our community. To our student athletes and their parents: I have been hearing you, and I have been advocating for you. I am pleased that we are able to make this progress toward safely allowing sports to resume.”
“I want to thank Rep. Breen for being a strong advocate on this issue,” said House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski, (D-Scio Twp). “House Democrats know we need faster COVID-19 vaccine distribution to help kids return to school and sports safely, that is why we continue to fight for real relief for Michigan families, workers, small businesses and schools.”
