“I am thankful for the countless community stakeholders, pastors, and my colleagues who signed the letter delivered to the President earlier this year on behalf of former Mayor Kwame’ Kilpatrick calling for commutation and the subsequent bipartisan support calling for compassionate release early April.
“This subject is much larger than one man or conviction. My passion for this issue is to ensure greater access to justice and victory to all who have been impacted by our judicial system – especially those communities that often bare the weight disproportionately. So I am calling on my Senate colleagues to move the House expungement package forward to ensure all citizens will have access to a fresh start in Michigan.”
