LANSING, Mich., June 15, 2021 — House Bill 4380 passed with overwhelming bipartisan support on the House Floor today. The bill would create the Michigan Military and Veterans Services Support Fund, allowing the state to accept tax-deductible donations in support of military members, veterans and their families. In response, state Rep. Richard M. Steenland (D-Roseville) issued the following statement:
“For years, people, businesses and other groups have wanted to partner with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to support their work and give back to service members and veterans. Unfortunately, there has never been a way for the department to accept these donations and gestures of support. The passage of my bill in the House today puts us one step closer to allowing the public to partner with the department in new and exciting ways to offer support to Michigan veterans and service members. They, along with their families, sacrifice so much for all of us, and with this bill, there will be more opportunities for people to give back. I have every hope that House Bill 4380 will receive the same bipartisan support in the Senate and be signed into law by the governor.”
