LANSING, Mich., Aug. 9, 2021 — Last week, state Rep. Rachel Hood (D-Grand Rapids) joined Michigan House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) to stand in solidarity with Democratic legislators from Texas, who have fled the state to block anti-voter legislation. Democratic state legislators from across the nation flew to Washington, D.C., to lobby for federal legislation to protect voting rights.

“Voting rights are under attack as part of a national agenda to sow doubt, disrupt governance and obstruct voter rights across the country for Republican gain,” said Rep. Hood. “I was glad to see Leader Lasinski capture the attention of state legislators from across the nation and share our state’s story of Michigan’s Republican leaders who allowed our state and Capitol to become a practice round for the Jan. 6 insurrection. She described the partisan Republican legislative agenda as seeking to strip away voting rights from the people of Michigan. The message was powerful because we know that what is happening in Michigan is also happening in 46 other states. If we want to protect our precious right to vote, we must continue to fight on both the federal and state levels.”

Several members of Michigan’s House and Senate Democratic Caucuses were also present: state Reps. Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth), Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) and state Sen. Adam Hollier (D-Detroit).
