Although this budget is being touted by some as good news for schools, the reality is that these are devastating cuts that are completely unnecessary. The only relief the state is making available comes with unreasonable strings attached and makes schools compete against each other. Lansing could have, and should have, chosen to invest the extra state money in providing the education our children need to become the world-class workforce that will attract top-notch employers and investors to Michigan.
We have to provide the tools our workers and businesses need to fuel Michigan’s economic recovery. I’ll keep fighting for initiatives that fully fund our schools and give them the resources they need to properly educate our kids.
