LANSING, Mich., Sept. 30, 2021 — This week, speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives Jason Wentworth (R-Farwell) appointed state Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) to the Military, Veterans and Homeland Security Committee. Anthony, who has championed the causes of veterans and their families throughout her tenure in office, issued the following statement:
“I’m passionate about supporting our veterans and their families. I worked across the aisle to sponsor House Bill 4376, which was passed into law as Public Act 23, and co-sponsor HB 4377, which was passed into law as Public Act 24. These bills waive trades licensing examinations and fees for veterans so they can find employment more easily and make good use of the superb training they receive in our armed forces. To recognize the full value that military members bring to the table by virtue of their service, I co-sponsored HB 4221, which offers employers with less than 50 full-time employees a $1,000 tax credit for each veteran they hire. And I’ve thrown my support behind legislation like HB 4380, which would create the Michigan Military and Veterans Services Support Fund. I’m grateful to the speaker for putting me in a position to do more good for veterans on the Military, Veterans and Homeland Security Committee. I’m honored and humbled to be able to serve our American service people and their families in Michigan.”
