There’s no doubt this past year has been tough on all of us, and I hope you and your family are staying healthy and safe. I wanted to take a moment to check in and provide an update on some of the things we’ve been working on and let you know what we have coming up— and, of course, to remind you that our office is always here to help if you need it.

Right to Work Repeal

Since Michigan’s controversial Right to Work law was passed without bipartisan support in 2012, workers have received lower wages on average while corporations have enjoyed higher profits.

As the son and grandson of union autoworkers, I’ve seen firsthand the way union membership builds power in our families and communities, and that’s why I introduced House Bill 4175, legislation that would repeal Right to Work for public employees.

By repealing this unjust law, we can finally allow Michigan workers greater freedom to join a union and get the pay, benefits, and protections they need and deserve.

Unemployment Benefits Tele-Town Hall

Over the past eleven months, over 2.2 million Michiganders have filed for unemployment. Since last March, we’ve helped thousands of Downriver residents access their benefits, but the fact remains that so many are still struggling to receive the funds they need and deserve.

Tomorrow at 6 p.m., we’ll be holding a tele-town hall with legislators and unemployment experts to discuss what we’ve been doing to help constituents get their benefits throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, answer your questions, and explain our ongoing efforts to improve and expand our unemployment system.

Teacher of the Month returns
