Dear Neighbor, Welcome to my e-newsletter! I’m honored and humbled to serve as our community’s voice at the Capitol in Lansing. 2020 was a year unlike any other; as we continue into the new year and new term, rest assured the challenges families in our community and state are facing are at the top of my legislative priorities. Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office by phone at (517) 373-0152 or email at AmosONeal@house.mi.gov if we can help. Sincerely, Amos O’Neal State Representative, 95th House District In this issue:

Supplemental: Yesterday the House and Senate again moved a supplemental package of bills to provide COVID Federal relief for Michiganders, but this time with substituted versions. Senate Bill 29 and Senate Bill 114 passed along party lines and will now head to the governor, yet again. This is the latest attempt for Republicans to push the same political agenda that leaves countless Michiganders caught in the crossfire. It is important for me to be as open as possible and do everything in my power to focus on helping get our communities the funds entitled to them. District Court Magistrates: This week I was so excited to give testimony and see movement on my House Bill 4184, which will allow Court Magistrates to conduct informal hearings on civil infractions and civil fine actions under the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act and the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act. This is incredibly important after the passage of Proposal 1 in 2018 to legalize marihuana and will help expedite the civil infraction process for violations to help better use our court resources. I am honored to see this bill move forward in the legislative process to improve our citizen’s access to justice and I hope it sees a committee vote soon. |
