DETROIT – State Representative Alberta Tinsley-Talabi (Detroit) held two events in Detroit recently to help inform area citizens about bicycle safety and legislative issues. The events are part of the representative’s ongoing effort to help Detroit residents access local resources and to keep them informed about how the work of the state Legislature affects them.
“Connecting our neighbors with the resources that can help them is a part of my job that I truly enjoy,” Representative Tinsley-Talabi said. “Whether it’s educating parents on the importance of bicycle helmets for their children or letting drivers know that some of the fees they used to face are being repealed, serving the people of Detroit is a duty I take seriously.”
Tinsley-Talabi held a bicycle safety fair on Saturday, July 21 at the Eastside Farmer’s Market. The Detroit Police Department participated in the event and three bicycles was given away. On Thursday, July 26, Tinsley-Talabi held a legislative forum at the Eastern Campus of Wayne County Community College. The representative shared information about changes to the Drivers Responsibility Act, a law that resulted in exorbitant fees for many motorists. James Walker of the National Motorist Association joined Tinsley-Talabi at the event.
“My goal is to keep people in Detroit informed about the issues being talked about in Lansing and to give them access to the resources they need,” Tinsley-Talabi said. “I’m glad to be able to put together programs like these for our neighbors, and I look forward to offering similar programs in the future.”
