LANSING, Mich., Dec. 14, 2021 — The House of Representatives passed legislation today to fund economic development programs that are designed to help businesses locate and expand facilities in Michigan, creating good-paying jobs for the people of the state. In response, House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:
“The bills we passed today, and the funding we have set aside for economic development, will bring more and better jobs to Michiganders. As a business person, I understand that to be competitive, you have to reach for opportunity and outwork your competitors. This legislation puts tools in our toolbox that will help Michigan bring next-generation manufacturing to our state and set us up for success for decades to come.”
Unfortunately, included in the bill package are changes to personal property tax collections that negatively impact local governments. Lasinski expressed her desire to fix this as soon as possible and committed the House Democratic Caucus to taking action to help municipalities.
