LANSING, Mich., Dec. 15, 2021 — Last night, the Michigan House of Representatives passed legislation that would create funds to attract new jobs and investment to Michigan. Senate Bills 769 and 771 and House Bill 5603 would create a fund and two programs to be used to back innovative programs to bring new jobs to Michigan in fast-growing industries, such as electric vehicles and battery cell manufacturing. The House also passed Senate Bill 85, which put money into the fund that SB 769 creates. State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) issued the following statement in support of the package:
“With the news that General Motors is making a decision on a massive investment in Delta Township of over $2 billion and creating thousands of jobs, we can tell our action in the Legislature is already paying off. This funding will ensure that our state has the tools to attract similar investments moving forward, creating more and better jobs for the best workforce in the world. These bills are good for communities large and small and will set our state up for success for decades to come.”
