Dear Neighbor,

Here is some information that I hope you will find helpful, including some updates and news from your state government.

Free COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics at the Breslin Center

Michigan State University and the Ingham County Health Department will offer free COVID-19 vaccination clinics this month at the Breslin Center. The clinics will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 26 and 31. Booster shots will be available for those that qualify. Everyone ages 5 and older in Michigan is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Schedule an appointment here.

Order Up to Four Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests

The federal government recently announced that every household in the U.S. is eligible to order four free at-home COVID-19 tests from COVIDtests.gov. Tests will be sent through the U.S. Postal Service and will ship 7 to 12 days after an order is placed.

Child Care Providers Across Michigan Receive $365 Million

Last week, nearly 6,000 child care providers across the state received $365 million through the Child Care Stabilization Grant program. This includes $1,000 bonuses for nearly 25,000 full-time child care staff and $500 bonuses for more than 13,000 part-time child care staff. Grant recipients can be viewed by county and by provider.

There will be a second opportunity in the late spring for child care providers to receive grant funding. My office will share the application information once it becomes available. More information about the Child Care Stabilization Grant program can be found at Michigan.gov/childcare.

Share Your Thoughts: Take the Invest in MI Community Infrastructure Survey

With the passage of the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Michigan is expected to receive billions in federal funding for infrastructure projects. To plan for this funding, Michigan House Democrats are collecting input from residents about the infrastructure needs in their communities. Share your thoughts via this survey.

House Session Canceled for the Week

As you might have heard, the Michigan House of Representatives will not hold session this week. We were scheduled to meet Tuesday through Thursday. However, the Speaker of the House decided to cancel session because of the high number of representatives and staff who have COVID-19. Hopefully, we will be back to a normal schedule next week. In the meantime, my office is here to help you by phone at (517) 373-0587 or by email at karahope@house.mi.gov.

Sincerely,

Kara Hope

State Representative
