LANSING, Mich., Jan. 26, 2022 — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her fourth State of the State address from Detroit Diesel. Her remarks highlighted proposals that put Michiganders first by growing Michigan’s economy, creating jobs, cutting taxes and lowering costs for families. In response, state Rep. Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth) issued the following statement:
“Gov. Whitmer’s remarks on the state of education cannot be overstated. Hiring, retaining and training the teachers responsible for fostering our children should be our number one priority. If left unchecked, the teacher shortage we’re facing now will only grow worse. We need bold new initiatives, like expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit and repealing the retirement tax, to grow the economy, uplift Michigan workers, and attract the kind of teaching talent that our children deserve.”
