LANSING, Mich., Feb. 15, 2022 — Today, the Michigan Labor Caucus held a press conference to unveil a 34-bill package that would restore and protect organizing, collective bargaining and workers’ rights. Bills in the package would help inform workers of their right to join a union, prohibit the use of replacement workers during labor disputes, and prohibit taxpayer money from being used to deter unionization, among several other measures.
State Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) sponsored two bills in the package to keep jobs in Michigan and allow state employees to use binding arbitration. She issued the following statement in support of the legislation:
“I’m very proud to stand with my colleagues today in support of workers’ rights. As the daughter of two UAW members, I understand firsthand how important organized labor is to the success of the working and middle class. All Michiganders deserve to have a high-paying, quality job with benefits, and we must make that a statewide priority. This package of bills is a good step toward achieving that goal and protecting Michigan workers.”
