SCIO, Mich., Oct. 20, 2021 – The Village of Manchester issued a public advisory earlier this week notifying residents of a heightened level of lead in the village water supply. Several sites in the village exceeded the state’s drinking water action level. In response, House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:
“These lead measurements underscore the critical need for investments in our water infrastructure across the state. It is concerning to have discovered heightened amounts of lead in Manchester, which is why I am supporting Governor Whitmer’s call to use $200 million in American Rescue Plan funds to replace lead service lines statewide. I have supported millions of dollars for lead remediation in our recent budget and co-sponsored legislation to enhance identification, prevention and treatment of lead exposures. But we can and must do more. It is crucial that we invest at the state and federal levels in upgrading our underground infrastructure as quickly as possible. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a better Michigan right now and for generations to come. It’s time to get it done for Manchester and all of our communities.”
