Johnson Opposes Legislation that Comes Between Medical Marijuana Patient and Doctor

LANSING, Mich., March 14, 2022 — House Bill 5512 has recently been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. The bill would give judges overseeing someone in special treatment courts the authority to decide if they can use medical marijuana as part of their treatment program. State Rep. Cynthia A. Johnson (D-Detroit) issued the following statement opposing the legislation: 

“People have been safely using marijuana as a medication for almost 15 years in this state. People with Alzheimer’s, cancer, epilepsy, chronic pain and PTSD rely on this medication to live their daily lives. This legislation sets a dangerous precedent that judges know more about medicine than doctors while putting an added burden on our courts.”
