LANSING, Mich., March 24, 2022 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 565 today, putting $4.7 billion to work in communities across the state, of which over $4 billion comes from federal relief funds. State Rep. Terry Sabo (D-Muskegon) voted in support of the bill, highlighting the nearly $2.2 billion for water infrastructure and nearly $650 million for transportation projects. Sabo issued the following statement:
“For years, our state’s infrastructure has been underfunded by the Republican majority, forcing us to now rely on the federal government to do our jobs. Appropriating these funds didn’t come easy, but, after much negotiation and many changes, we were finally able to reach a compromise. While we were lucky this time, these kinds of funds are a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. We can’t continue to allow our infrastructure to get to the point where we need to be bailed out to avoid disaster. I look forward to working with my colleagues to put on Michigan’s infrastructure on a more sustainable, responsible path.”
