LANSING, Mich., March 24, 2022 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 565 today, putting billions of dollars to work in communities across the state. State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) voted in support of the bill, highlighting the $100 million investment in housing and community development. Haadsma issued the following statement:
“The housing market for people looking to buy or rent a home is a growing concern. Critical roles in our community are left unfilled for extended periods of time because workers lack safe, affordable housing. We need to do everything we can to attract and grow the number of people who call Battle Creek their home so we can address the labor shortage and improve our local economy. The budget we passed today will begin to make strides toward resolving these issues and make a desperately needed investment in housing and community development. The balance of this $4.7 billion spending bill makes long-term investments in roads, bridges, broadband and water systems to boost Michigan’s economy and start solving problems that have been ignored for the past decade.”
