LANSING, Mich., April 8, 2022 — State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) called on leaders of the majority Republican caucus today to take up an ethics resolution he co-sponsored months ago. House Resolution 224 would create the bipartisan House Select Committee on Ethics, which would be charged with investigating allegations of wrongdoings by current and former representatives that don’t rise to the level of criminal prosecution. Haadsma issued the following statement:
“This resolution was introduced nearly two months ago — 59 days — and has been left to wither in committee ever since. During that time, neither this resolution nor any alternative plan to hold our members accountable has been put up for consideration in committee or on the House floor. At this point, it’s clear: Republicans are willfully choosing to keep the people of Michigan in the dark. Elected officials must be held to a higher standard, and this resolution is the first step. I urge my colleagues to reconsider their inaction and affirm to Michiganders that their representatives in government will be held accountable for their actions.”
