LANSING, Mich., May 26, 2022 — State Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw) is one of 40 lawmakers chosen to participate in the annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) training program. The BILLD is named in honor of the late James Bowhay, longtime director of The Council of State Governments’ Midwestern Office.
“I am beyond grateful to take part in the 27th year of the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Development,” O’Neal said. “The seminars and skills taught throughout these five days will support my continuous growth as a lawmaker and a representative. This conference provides an excellent opportunity to take part in a curriculum designed to further develop leadership skills, and analyze a variety of public policy issues, including the economy, trade and energy policy. I will never shy away from an opportunity to learn and to continue to sharpen my skills as a leader for my district and state. Only good comes from growth.”
The goal of the national, nonpartisan organization is to assist and advance state government by providing research assistance, professional development opportunities, interstate consulting services and suggested state legislation. This program identifies and assists promising state leaders in the Midwest, Rep. O’Neal being one.
The conference includes courses and seminars conducted by policy experts, Midwestern legislative leaders and professional development trainers. More than 900 former lawmakers have taken part in this unique educational experience. The conference takes place Aug. 27-31 in Madison, Wis.
